Quite a Day

Today was quite a day. BUT, it ended well, I suppose:

I got word from Uli's day care provider that he is ready for pre-school. My baby's growing up... I am so proud, but so emotional. It's going to be hard on me. Thank GOD for nights like tonight when he asked to hold my hand as he fell asleep.

I put the package together to mail first thing tomorrow morning to STORK. Three soakers in stock, 7 more to go. Exciting!!!

Have a peaceful night.

FiddleHeads!

It is the season again for Fiddle Heads - those luscious ferns that are barely above ground and plucked for eating. So yummy.

These little ferns were new to me last year, perhaps the first year I really embraced being a New Englander. I saw these everywhere begging me to try them (I will try anything if it's made for me, I tend to be less bold when I have to cook). I finally broke down in the Worcester 'Co-op,' and they were worth it. I couldn't wait for them this year...

Let it be known that fiddleheads can be tough on some people, and leave them feeling quite nauseated. These guys come with a warning to steam them for 10 minutes first, then cook them (saute with a little olive oil, garlic, and salt - mmmmm). Apparently, not everyone suffers, but better play it on the safe side. I will in the future.

Important things are happening here. First soakers ready for The Stork:

{this moment}

This moment... inspired by Amanda Soule.

A year ago I made the decision to return to work and have my son attend 'school' near my place of work. This picture was taken the Friday before our new adventure started. My heart was so torn...

This photo and others from this time remind me just how much I love my son, and why the decision I made was the right one. Our love is still fierce, and our time together is that much more wonderful.

Happy Mothers Day, Friends!

Spring Fever!!!

(ahem, in my best falsetto): 'Spring is here, oh Spring is here...'

I have been outside every day, either running, riding, chasing my Sunny Son, digging in the dirt, or some combination of the above. I have a tan. I have dirt under my fingernails. I can't be in a better mood.

Uli and I went shopping for dirt, which sounds totally silly to me. Brian recently wiped out the rickety old garage on our property, which opened up a huge space of pure sunny-ness. PERFECT for raised garden beds. Brian filled in the chasm which once held the garage foundation, layered gravel, then pea gravel, and now my beds have a new home. Dirt and broccoli shopping:

In other news, my adventures in sewing fizzled out. I am totally frustrated with the dress I started, and the purse I wanted to make for my Mommy was a disaster. I did manage to pull off quite a cute shirt for Uli from this fantastic fabric from Japan before things went downhill.

I am picking up hooking again:

This box of yarn met me at the door yesterday. It is full of O-Wool, for a project I have promised for a 'local' shop in Milford, NH. The Stork is all about organic goods for babies and toddlers, and I approached them about selling my diaper soakers. They agreed to consign, and now I have committed to three colors in three sizes. Can you guess one of the colors?

Work is busy again... maybe my yarn and hook (and the dirt and good weather) will help keep me a bit more grounded this time.
